Responding to president’s call for larger stimulus payments.
On Monday, the House of Representatives voted to increase the amount of the stimulus checks for Americans from $600 to $2,000 as President Trump had insisted upon. The motion has been sent to the Senate.
President Trump signed the new COVID-19 relief bill on Sunday, stating that the $600 amount was far too little. While the bipartisan bill had passed both houses of Congress with strong bipartisan support, President Trump had delayed signing it due to the low amount of stimulus for Americans and excessive apportioning of other funds.
The president also invoked the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 to rescind much of the wasteful spending contained within the relief and budget bill.
